thanks for the feedback Cora and congratulations on your show in Carlow. Great idea and great that it worked out so well for you. Really good point about being realistic about how long it can take to get things done. It's all about planning and working backwards from your opening date.

Hi Padraig,
This is a GREAT post - thanks for taking the time to write a comprehensive list of guidelines that are vital when planning an exhibition.

I just staged a show a couple of weeks ago in the form of a 'Pop-Up' shop to coincide with Eigse - Carlow's Annual Arts Festival. Thankfully the show was a great success and I managed to exceed my targets.

For me, the key to staging a successful exhibition is being VERY clear about your intended outcomes. Write a list and then focus on achieving them.

Be realistic too about the time it will take to make it happen(particularly if you have to undertake framing or if your venue needs repairs / redocorating). I managed to get my show open in 10 days - thanks to an enormous amount of help from my friends - but I would say this is not for the faint-hearted and to be avoided if possible.

Thanks again for a great post - I wish i'd seen it last month! - but it is reassuring to know I touched on most points. I will definitely be referring to it for future exhibitions.
